I'm starting to agree with Zarayna that the lockdowns aren't Covid related, so much as for some unseen political purpose, bureaucratic inertia, or simply plain old face-saving.
With the CCP's love of authority and general Asian attitudes towards community over the individual, all three seem as likely as anything.
(1) The lockdowns have nothing to do with Covid. They would be a political move to reinforce the message of a dangerous pathogen to the gullible of the world, demoralise the more knowledgeable and illustrate the power the Chinese leaders have over their serfs to their admiring friends in the WEF.
Second, the lockdowns will inevitably affect trade – most notably with the West who rely on China for manufactured goods and would have the greatest of difficulty in replacing such with their own skilled workers and plants. We may not even have the basic raw materials to do so.
(2) Internal Chinese politics. Too inscrutable for me to fathom.
(3) Slight possibility that the bio-weapon labs in Ukraine had perfected their bespoke ethnic bioweapons to target their targets in China and Russia.
Thanks for the opportunity to display my limitations.
Couple months ago I saw reports of the housing market in China melting down. Big protests about that. A lot of people being swindled. Lockdowns could be one way of controlling more demonstrations and protests.
I think that's why we in the West are being primed for more lockdowns - infections or climate or whatever - but really because they've nicked or mismanaged the money!
I agree. Good point. Despite all the trash we throw at them, they are highly intelligent and careful. What do they know is a good question. When I was there in past I was highly impressed and found pretty much nothing which matched our press and assertions. I checked with a recent US Secretary of State and found he agreed with my observations. Yeah, China doesn't do things out of stupidity.
I've wondered this for awhile now.

I know nothing and will share that with you.

Always follow the money!
A reminder of China's recent past and the West's likely future.

Their behaviour is definitely puzzling. One could conjecture, but in my experience unpredictability is one of their traits.
