I see that China is shutting down Beijing, among other places, which causes untold hardship and hobbles their economy.
The Chinese aren’t stupid. They’re well aware that COVID, especially the mild variants circulating now, is about as deadly as the seasonal flu. At least when contracted - we have no idea what the effect, if any, is, years out.
The Chinese also didn’t deploy any MRNA based shots.
And of course, Wuhan was a key development hub for COVID, so they have all the possible info on the bug.
China’s behavior over what looks like a seasonal flu is puzzling, and should have anyone with a brain asking one question: What do the Chinese know about COVID that we don’t, that has them willing to shut down their economy over it?
I've wondered this for awhile now.
I'm starting to agree with Zarayna that the lockdowns aren't Covid related, so much as for some unseen political purpose, bureaucratic inertia, or simply plain old face-saving.
With the CCP's love of authority and general Asian attitudes towards community over the individual, all three seem as likely as anything.
Perhaps economic difficulties in the real estate markets and youth unemployment reflect poorly on the Party and need to be deflected.
