Sometimes it takes a shock to a system to demonstrate how fragile it is. Or how strong, depending on perspective.
I was banned for violating “FB Community Standards” 16 days ago (which in reality means content that factually contradicts the official false narrative), and the absence of FB in my life has had zero negative impact, and a huge positive one. I no longer waste hours on posts from others whose content is the nutritional equivalent of cotton candy. I have dropped 3 pounds. I’m out and about more. I feel better. I ignore most social media nonsense, leaving it to others to point out the obvious lies (which are becoming so obvious that even the morons who bought into it all for two years are now faced with the complete absence of reason for most of their actions and decisions).
Life is good. Better without FB. I’ve contracted Omicron, and after a few days of headache and sore throat, am recovering. At no point was I anywhere near the valley of death, in spite of the fact that I’m known to drink and am as unvaxxed as a spring lamb. My immune system did what it has been doing for decades, and I beat off the bad bug, and life has returned to normal. I took Ivermectin for five days, along with some HCQ and fistfulls of my usual supplements, and on a scale of 1-10, would put this episode at around a 4-5, tops, with 10 being get me to the ER, and 1 being pinch me so I know I’m not dreaming.
My year looks fantastic with a major new series about to start, co-authored with a big name. I would post private jet and beach shots, but it seems way too instagrammy, and I don’t want yet more solicitations to push bikinis or flavored tequila. In short, whether coincidental or not, being FB absent has coincided with a great period in my life, and I plan to extend that 30 day absence indefinitely other than the odd book news.
It’s like there’s a whole real world out there waiting to be experienced, and you don’t have to spend your time living through a tiny screen.
Shocking, I know.
I got suspended on Twitter & didn't look at it for about the same amount of time. When I logged back in, I found everything on my acct was wiped.
A blessing in disguise.
I see it differently now; not a source of latest news/trends etc, but a place to pointlessly argue and one up others w/ caustic wit.
BFD b/c @ the end of the day, nobody's mind is changed nor viewpoints expanded. So the question I asked is 'Why do it?'
FB?
I've been on it a fair bit the last 2 days:
1/ Keeping in touch w/ a family of Cubans we met the last time we were there (Christmas 2019)
2/ Staying in touch w a friend who's been driving 1 1/2 hr / day to support the truckers 'insurrection' (LOL) in Ottawa.
Yeah, social media's a time suck.
Congrats on the hook up w/ big shot. I hope it's Lee Child. The last Reacher book (his brother wrote it) was pretty bad.
BUT
The Amazon series was perfect. P E R F E C T. Great casting.
As you know, in your FB absence, I normally post your Substack posts on your TL, albeit via your comments section.
However, I hesitate to do so this time - some of your fans have little choice but to live much of their lives through a tiny social media screen and I know you wouldn't wish to hurt them.
On the other hand, I'm sure they'd love to hear news from you.
Please advise.
