As a follow up to my recent FB post, and based on a challenge in a PM, I can list all the areas that the U.S. is number one:
Guns per capita.
Mental illness.
War spending.
Number of military bases worldwide.
Number of countries attacked that never attacked it.
Arms exports.
Prescription drug use.
Illegal drug use.
Percentage of population in prison. And absolute number of incarcerated.
School shootings per day, week, year.
Fetal mortality.
Per capita debt.
Most expensive healthcare.
Rapes.
Anti-depressant consumption.
Sadly, this isn’t an exhaustive list. But for those who are fist pumping about how amazeballs the U.S. is, all I can say is you have to ignore an awful lot of stuff to believe it’s number one at anything meritorious. It used to be, but no longer. That’s ancient history. The U.S. I grew up in is long gone, and the above is what’s left. And yes, millions of the desperately poor from crime infested violent hellholes in central america and the poorest areas of mexico want in, because the pay is better than in their countries. But that doesn’t mean any of the above isn’t true. It just means someone with a second grade education from Honduras or El Salvador doesn’t know it any more than you do.
Yes, we are no longer any shining light on the hill nor “exceptional” other than for our international crimes and lists like you supply here. I also add that we are number one in attempted overthrow of other nations and resultant world-wide civilians killed in the process. There is no resemblance whatsoever between what we are now and when I was young.
Being #1 in Guns per capita is the only thing keeping the USSA together. If there was no 2A it would have all been over long ago, and given the per capita weapons this nation has a fighting chance and will eventually defeat the One World Order.
