If I had told anyone five years ago that Canada would go full blown authoritarianism complete with citizens that disagree with their government being proclaimed domestic terrorists and thus enemies of the state, with the possibility of their funds frozen and incarceration, I would have been laughed out of the room.
Sadly, that is now the norm. And the “state of emergency” that wasn’t at any point an emergency has been ratified and looks good to be extended indefinitely.
Concurrently, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has issued a bulletin that the greatest threat to the State are “domestic terrorists,” which include…wait for it…those who feel the State is illegitimate.
If only there was a pattern here.
You have a virus that is now about as serious as the common cold, you have those who point that out and that none of the “emergency measures” have worked, or were even necessary, labeled enemies of the State, and the clear threat that if you dare to disobey or differ from the State’s provably false narrative, you will be crushed.
If this is what freedom looks like, I’m glad I not longer live there.
And, this anti-democratic, anti-Constitutional trend is accelerating as are the multiple false narratives, domestic and international. Some of the damage of these downward trends, violating our rights and maiming our economy, are not likely ever to be repaired, and we will never return to whatever level of rights we enjoyed prior to our gov’t’s unjustified preemptions of our rights under the screen of COVID. My independent view of the lack of honor, integrity, and any semblance of honesty of our politicians cannot be lower, for it is at the zero level.
Thanks, Russell. We are at a low point and heading lower.
